How the math works
Yardage is sourced from standard commercial pattern envelope tables. Narrow fabric (45") needs 30–50% more than wide (60"). "With nap" adds 10–20% because every pattern piece must lie in the same direction.
Quilt math: top yardage = (quilt L × quilt W) ÷ (fabric width × 36) + 10% waste. Backing needs the same plus 8" overhang on each side. Always buy ¼ yd / 25 cm extra for shrinkage and straightening cuts.
