Fabric Yardage Calculator

Calculate fabric yardage by garment type and size, with adjustments for 45" vs 60" wide fabric, with/without nap, and repeat-pattern allowance.

How the math works

Yardage is sourced from standard commercial pattern envelope tables. Narrow fabric (45") needs 30–50% more than wide (60"). "With nap" adds 10–20% because every pattern piece must lie in the same direction.

Quilt math: top yardage = (quilt L × quilt W) ÷ (fabric width × 36) + 10% waste. Backing needs the same plus 8" overhang on each side. Always buy ¼ yd / 25 cm extra for shrinkage and straightening cuts.
